Latino Infant Initiative

The Latino Infant Initiative is a collaborative effort by Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors and UnidosUS to improve the quality of life for Latino infants (prenatal to age 3) and their families.

By listening deeply to Latino families, advocates, and program staff, this initiative seeks to influence national priorities and ensure equitable access to high-quality, culturally and linguistically responsive services that support the healthy development and learning of all Latino children, regardless of background.

Policy Agenda

The Latino Infant Initiative Policy Agenda was developed in collaboration between UnidosUS and Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors. The Policy Agenda was drafted in partnership with the Latino Infant Initiative Advisory Council which is made up of parents, providers, researchers, and partner organizations.

The policy agenda is rooted in the experiences and needs of the Latino community. To ensure this we considered the data from the 2023 National Latino Family Report and five focus groups with Latino parents conducted by UnidosUS.

The overarching goal is to influence federal and state policies that will ensure that all Latino infants, toddlers, and their families, regardless of background or circumstances, have equitable access to high-quality, culturally and linguistically responsive programs and services that support their healthy physical, mental, and social development and learning. This policy agenda will provide a roadmap to the system-wide changes that are needed to advance this goal.

National Latino Family Reports

The National Latino Family Reports present an overview of the Latino community amidst a dynamic socio-political landscape. A survey of over 1,500 Latino families with children prenatal through five years old, this annual report analyzes the key issues, concerns, and aspirations that shape Latino families’ daily lives and vision for the future.
